High above Minneapolis in a prominent high rise, this recent full-residence renovation helmed by David Heide Design Studio brings much-needed panache and a dash of magic to the formerly builder-basic space. Working within building constraints, the team retained the residence’s existing appliance, mechanical and plumbing locations while elevating and transfiguring every surface throughout the home.
The refreshed great room is a study in contrast with dark wood tones complementing bright Taj Mahal quartzite, modern windows and architectural details, paired with elegant and feminine furnishings and lighting. The former “every condo” blonde maple cabinetry and budget granite are long-forgotten now that the space is wrapped in custom opulent woodwork. The contemporary aesthetic of the architectural detailing allows the textures of every surface to shine by day and the brilliant city views to glimmer at night.
The primary suite is a den of luxe relaxation accented with pewter-toned wallpaper, furnishings and bedding glistening against a navy blue backdrop. Warm touches found in the curated art and accessories throughout complete the ambience upgrade and add a touch of allure. The adjoining bathroom has been totally transformed from a dim and sparse room to a haven of glamour and luxury, perfect for the client who was envisioning a dynamic post-workday retreat.
Building covenants required there would be no change to existing plumbing locations. This constraint, along with the dire need for light, were major design challenges when navigating a vision for the bathroom. The entire interior was removed, making way for a complete reimagining of the space. Mirroring the walls and ceiling was the first design decision.The solution introduces bright and expansive reflections that visually expand the petite room, creating interesting depth and perspective in a once boring box.
The oval mirror atop historic design–inspired cabinetry, crystal chandeliers and traditional plumbing fixtures bring a sense of romance to the room. The enchantment continues to the primary closet where lackluster wire shelving and rods were replaced by floor-to-ceiling custom cabinetry.
Attentive communication and a fastidious commitment to detailing speaks to the deliberate design and quality David Heide Design Studio invested while welcoming this previously outdated space into a new era. It’s a stunner that is sure to shine in the upper hemisphere of downtown Minneapolis for years to come.
