Long ago are the days when crushing boxes of Cracker Jacks at a Minnesota Twins game or screaming the “Skol” chant in support of our beloved — a term used loosely depending on the season — Vikings defined the sports fan experience. In recent years, fandom has expanded into uncharted territory. We’re zeroing in on the courtside looks of favorite celebs, anxiously awaiting drops of curated athlete/designer clothing collections (think New Balance x Miu Miu à la tennis star Coco Gauff) and admittedly getting sucked into the lore of any given athlete’s personal life (I know far too much about Tommy Paul’s recent nuptials and Taylor Fritz’s recent sightings with Olivia Jade). Lucky for me, these adjacent activities have fast-tracked my interest in athletics. All of this to say, the world of sports has become more inclusive, especially for those whose level of investment can be boiled down to a “I just hope both teams have fun” mentality.
Fittingly, our feature, “The Style of Sport,” explores fashion’s recent impact on the world of sports (fans and WAGs included) — and vice versa. In today’s zeitgeist, fashion week shows are dotted with pro athletes garbed in designer frocks. Similarly, haute couture houses are dedicating meaningful capital to dress some of the world’s most famous athletes — Loewe as the official fashion partner of Spain’s national soccer teams simply makes sense, doesn’t it? Here, we unpack it all, celebrating the intersection of these two cultural domains, featuring exclusive commentary from renowned experts such as NFL Fashion Editor Kyle Smith and sports insider Daniel-Yaw Miller.

Elsewhere in the issue, we explore the latest trends in milestone jewelry at JB Hudson in “All That Glitters” — spoiler alert, the bezel cut is so back. David Coggins offers a lazy man’s approach to wellness in “In Good Health.” Editor-at-Large Kate Nelson explains how Santa Fe, New Mexico, became the epicenter of Indigenous design in “Southwest Dressing.” Plus, we get a glimpse into the new tome Basquiat: The World of Jean-Michel, which explores the creative brain of the late artist in “Stroke of Genius.” As always, you’ll get your fix of exquisite home tour stories boasting impeccable design and craftsmanship.
As summer comes to a close and that familiar crisp in the air returns (welcoming to many; devastating to some), we hope the pages of our autumn issue spark inspiration to hone your own sense of style and perhaps tune into a football game or two, even if it’s solely for tunnel fit coverage or an excuse to rock a vintage letterman jacket.
Game on,
