In downtown St. Paul, where architectural silhouettes meet the Mississippi River, a panoramic skyline becomes the centerpiece of an elegant transformation by Interior Impressions. When the firm’s longtime clients traded a suburban home for a high-rise residence, their mission was simple: to create a forever home that balances urban energy within a serene retreat. “Our clients wanted the skyline to be the star,” says Amy Leferink, principal designer at Interior Impressions. “Everything else folds in behind the view, but supports it with richness and warmth.” The project, fondly dubbed Skyline Spectacular, captures the essence of approachable luxury through sophisticated, timeless and deeply personal design.
Stepping inside the condo, guests are immediately greeted by a custom walnut-paneled entry wall, which cleverly conceals doors and storage behind architectural rhythm. The once-ordinary corridor now serves as a gallery of tone and texture, introducing a palette of caramel, cream and soft black with brass details. The wide-plank white oak floors lead into the spacious open-concept living area, where the sweeping city backdrop serves as artwork.
A reimagined fireplace and a curated bar replace what was once a nondescript media wall. The statement stone — a black and caramel granite — adds drama, while tailored built-ins and layered lighting create a sense of invitation. “We wanted to elevate the everyday,” Leferink explains. “Even grabbing an evening drink should feel like a moment.” This central gathering space reflects the project’s core philosophy: comfort elevated by craft. Rich textures, plush seating and subtle metallic finishes create visual weight without sacrificing warmth.
The primary bedroom suite continues the story of modern elegance. A grid-pattern millwork wall acts as both headboard and sculpture, with soft neutral tones chosen to create a cocoon of calm. Thoughtful lighting reinforces serenity, easily shifting from natural daylight to an ambient glow as needed. In the en suite bathroom, the team replaced the tub with an expansive walk-in shower of large-format porcelain tile that mimics the veining of marble. “It gives a luxury look without the upkeep,” shares Leferink. “Our goal was timeless ease, nothing fussy.”
Even the flex room — a combined office, guest room and workout space — reflects a designer’s precision. A Murphy bed concealed within custom cabinetry maintains the room’s clean lines when not in use. Hidden storage and sleek surfaces make it effortless to adapt the space for the couple’s dynamic downtown lifestyle. Throughout the home, beauty and functionality are inseparable, quietly reinforcing sublime craftsmanship, light and proportion.
Skyline Spectacular’s transformation serves as a reminder that true luxury isn’t about excess, but intention. “It’s how you live every day, not just how something looks when it’s perfect,” Leferink notes. With its restrained palette, smart planning and layered textures, the revived condo embodies living artfully through design that enriches daily life while honoring individuality and place.
