How did you get started in home styling and design?

At first, I worked on the design and styling in my own home then eventually for a couple of friends. On Instagram, people began reaching out to work with me, and I got some amazing clients and experiences from that social platform.

Where does the name Creekwoodhill come from?

Creekwoodhill comes from our past and present, just like the way I prefer to design. Creekwoodhill was part of an old street we lived on when our children were young, and it is part of the neighborhood we live in now.

We have been spending so much time in our homes. How have you had to utilize your spaces differently?

Living in our new not-normal has been challenging for sure. We as a family are all home and needed to find our own workspaces within our shared spaces. I work from home most days so not too much changed for me. But I didn’t expect that I would feel so differently with the addition of two more people at home. One of the first things I did was create a workspace in our unused basement where I could retreat when needed.

Do you have a favorite room in your home?

I would say my favorite room in our home is our basement. I’ve just begun creating it, and I find it soothing and inspiring when I’m down there. I designed it in a different tone than the rest of the house, and it feels very happenstance yet purposeful and intentional.

What tips do you have for styling our homes to complement the season?

I am not a big fan of seasonal decor. I wouldn’t call my style minimalistic, but I’m not a maximalist either. I prefer to forage the botanicals of the season and display them in recycled glass jars or barware as little vessels. During the summer, I tend to keep things light. Even things from the garden look pretty when displayed in little vessels.

Any advice for creating spaces that bring comfort and joy?

Surround yourself with pieces that speak to you and that you love. If you love something or find it interesting, you will always find a place for it in your home. I prefer to mix styles, genres and time periods. I love a collected and curated space with personality over a matchy-matchy set of something that looks like it’s out of a catalog. Instead, think about how you want to use each room and feel in each room, then pull in those pieces.
