Collagen is all the rage right now, and for good reason. There are so many health and beauty benefits to adding it to one’s diet, including skin moisture and elasticity, healthier hair and nails, enhanced muscle mass, and joint relief. It sounds too good to be true, right? The entire Artful Living team is obsessed with adding collagen to our water, coffee and tea, so when I heard about Kalumi Beauty Food’s new collagen protein bars, I was intrigued and decided to take one for the (Artful Living) team. Plus, they were in the Goop Shop, so I had to see if they would live up to the hype.
Kalumi was launched by two models who were traveling the world and constantly coming up empty-handed when looking for healthy, nutrient-rich snacks. And so the brand was born in their New York City apartment. Each bar boasts 12 grams of marine collagen and consists of sweet-potato powder, yacon root syrup and cocoa butter. Not your typical protein bar ingredients, but healthy fats and slow-releasing carbs FTW!
The bar’s flavors are unique: Cocoa Kiss, Lemon Love, Sweetie Pie and Cheeky Chia. I tried the first three, and I have to say, Cocoa Kiss tops my list. I’m a sucker for any and all things chocolate, so I knew before even trying it that the brownie-flavored bar with cacao would definitely be my fave.
So the real question: Are Kalumi bars’ taste on par with their benefits? Yes! The flavors are all on-point and not too sweet or overpowering. These bars do have a slightly different texture than other protein bars on the market (a little oily), but when you remember that they don’t contain any artificial fillers or sweeteners, you quickly get past that. These bars are a bit pricy, but they’re totally worth it considering the high-quality ingredients and the amount of marine collagen they contain. I also love the fact that you can purchase a variety pack (three of the four flavors) to test out before committing to a full box of one variety.
Once again, Gwyneth has recommended another winner. And in this case, you can judge a book by its cover: These Kalumi bars are as healthy and tasty as they are beautifully packaged.
