Originally built in the 1950s, this classic Edina rambler was simply ready for a breath of fresh air. And after the owner approached The Sitting Room Studio to instill new life into the residence with a fresh interior design plan, the home’s future instantly looked much brighter.

Everson Architect made the critical decision to bump out the entire existing kitchen and dining room to allow for triple the amount of space for the team to reimagine and redesign what entertaining could look like in the home.

“Once we had the additional space to work with, we laid out the interior design based on some of the client’s favorite residences they had visited on recent home tours. We aimed to refine, open and welcome the spirit of family gatherings,” says Senior Interior Designer Megan Jackson Meder.

To address the lower ceilings natural to the rambler-like dwelling, Meder and her team set out to maximize brightness in each space and give the illusion of height. They opted for a timeless earthy palette and carefully curated selections to complement the design scheme, including white-quartz countertops and backsplashes, beachy white-oak floors, and airy see-through lighting throughout the residence.

“The fireplace before-and-after was a complete game changer for me,” recalls Meder. “The new breathtaking feature really transformed the home and sets the design tone immediately when you walk in.”

One of the client’s top goals was to create a natural flow through the residence that felt comfortable and flexible for their growing family. To achieve this, Meder and her collaborators at Everson Architect and Frontier Custom Builders incorporated an array of durable features with both high-performance and kid-friendly functions that will weather well for years to come.

“The entire collaborative team had a wonderful time bringing this project to life,” shares Meghan Simonson of Frontier Custom Builders. “The clients were great to work with and very engaged during the selection process. Our favorite change was the conversion of the porch into a functional four-season space with the addition of heated floors, which made a big positive impact on the overall floor plan.”

Other standout transformations to the residence include optimizing the kitchen by adding more storage and counter space, elevating the sophisticated bar area, installing expansive windows to allow ample natural light in, and crafting the stunning new black-and-white walk-in tile shower.

“It was fantastic working with The Sitting Room Studio and Frontier Custom Builders,” the homeowner explains. “They were great at guiding us through our first major remodel. It was a learning curve, and both teams helped educate us throughout the process. The outcome was stellar — beautiful work and excellent people!”
