Recognized as both a National Register of Historic Places and a New York City Landmark, this Beaux Arts beauty has stood on the buzzy corner of 29th Street and Madison Avenue for more than 120 years. That Gilded Age glory has been renewed with Hotel Seville NoMad, the building’s newest inn iteration; locals and Big Apple lovers likely know it from its past lives as the James, the Carlton and the like. The property joined the curated Hyatt Unbound Collection earlier this year, and refreshes are underway that contemporize that storied heritage (expected to be completed in spring 2026).

Setting

The location simply can’t be beat, right in the belly of the Big Apple beast in trending NoMad. Much like the property itself, this vibrant Manhattan enclave is undergoing a revitalization of sorts, with must-try dining and shopping spots popping up left and right. It’s very old meets new, past meets present, tradition meets modernity — in the very best way possible. A morning stroll through nearby Madison Square Park is a must.

Vibe

Beaux Arts is the name of the game at Hotel Seville. The stately structure is a marvel to behold, and that’s all before you even enter the building. Both architecture aficionados and history buffs will savor a stay here, with textured layers of understated elegance unfolding before you the moment you set foot inside the lobby. (This is a rare lobby that truly invites you to lounge, to grab a bite at Il Bar, to catch up with a friend.) Here, sophistication doesn’t equate to stuffiness but instead a lived-in, laid-back luxury that flows from the public spaces into the guest accommodations.

Amenities

In addition to an unmatched locale with access to pretty much everything your heart desires, Hotel Seville has plenty to offer within its walls, too. That includes three distinct dining concepts, such as local favorite Scarpetta. Il Bar punches above its weight class as a beloved lobby bar, while the Seville speakeasy pairs craft cocktails with live music in a moody atmosphere. Rounding out the property amenities are the gym, meeting rooms and event spaces.

The Rooms

Of the boutique hotel’s 348 guest rooms, the suites are simply standout. In addition to extra legroom to stretch out, they boast marble bathrooms, luxe natural linens and custom furniture. Of course, the Penthouse Suites — there are two — are the ultimate indulgence, letting you live like a local in more than 1,000 square feet. Bonus: Higher floor rooms offer some of the best views in town. (The 2026 property face-lift promises a soothing muted palette of grays and blues, in addition to updated artwork and other special touches.)

Dining

Flagship Italian eatery Scarpetta lives up to all the hype, including a James Beard Best New Restaurant nomination and a New York Times three-star review. The spaghetti with tomato and basil is a favorite for a reason, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the housemade pastas and sauces. (You can also do good by eating good here, with $1 of every spaghetti dish ordered supporting the Food Education Fund.) Buon appetito!

Cost

Suites starting at $699/night.
