The equation is simple: where there’s a spectacular menu, there’s usually spectacular company in tow. And there’s no better time than the holidays to trust the process and enlist the experts to help you make the most of the festive season. Paikka is the Twin Cities’ premier entirely female-owned and operated event space that understands the importance of distinctively breathtaking gatherings. The venue is approaching its popular Holiday Bazaar event and has officially released tickets for its highly anticipated Julbord dining experience, happening on December 11. Here, the Paikka team gives us a closer look at the planning of this year’s exciting Swedish culinary feast, sharing a sneak peek at the curated eats guests can look forward to and the thoughtful inspirations behind this special evening.

What inspired Paikka to launch its own Julbord?

Holiday planning can feel like a marathon, so we wanted to create something that feels generous and effortless. A celebration where you simply show up, get handed a festive beverage, share a delicious buffet and connect. The Swedish idea of lagom — not too much, not too little, just right — guided us. Hosting a one-night-only gathering with a specific and set menu reduces waste and allows for thoughtful intentionality. Paikka values connection, great design and experiences that invite people to slow down and be present. Julbord felt like a natural extension of that.

Can you describe the flavors guests can expect on the Swedish buffet?

It’s all about comfort and contrast. Think briny herring, smoked fish and cured salmon alongside tender Swedish meatballs, savory sausages and boiled potatoes with dill. There will be sharp mustard, sweet-tart lingonberry jam and the cozy scent of warm glögg — Swedish mulled wine spiced with clove, cardamom and orange. For dessert, guests can enjoy rice pudding, clementines, dates with cheese, vegan bars, peppermints and other nostalgic sweets that end the meal on a bright, cheerful note.

What creative and fun activities will be a part of this year’s festive event?

The Julbord dining experience will be the heart of the evening, sparking conversation and curiosity, but we’ll also have materials for guests to fold paper star ornaments, giving groups a chance to collaborate and create something by hand to take home. The evening is designed to be multi-generational and open to all ages, inviting everyone to partake in a unique cultural experience and make memories together.

What types of groups can take advantage of this pre-planned party?

It’s perfect for anyone who wants to gather without the stress of hosting or coordinating with a restaurant. Teams celebrating a great year, friend groups looking for a new holiday tradition or families who just want an easy, beautiful night out. Tickets are available individually or as tables of eight. Groups booking a full table receive a discount, and we’re happy to customize seating for different group sizes.

What are you most looking forward to this holiday season?

For the team at Paikka, the holidays are a study in balance — light and shadow, abundance and simplicity. Preparing for the season means thinking intentionally about how to make the most of that balance. The holidays offer endless opportunities for creating a sense of magic, and we know that kind of atmosphere doesn’t happen by chance. We take pride in being part of that active magic-making, crafting experiences that feel considered yet effortless, where food and community align in a way that feels distinct.
