Gesica Horn, DDS, and Chad Loween, DDS, each have more than 20 years of experience in dentistry. But far from putting it on autopilot, the owners of Serene Oaks Dental push the boundaries of how dental care is practiced.
After dental school, both pursued considerable additional education. Horn is now one of 86 accredited American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry fellows in the world. She’s recognized for providing the highest level of long-term functionality as well as beautiful aesthetics.
As for Loween, he’s driven by a desire to help the industry evolve from one-tooth-at-a-time reactive fixes to a more holistic approach employing the latest technology. “Our population is aging and people are living longer,” he notes, adding that his focus is on protecting and preserving what we have.
The balance of state-of-the-art technology — 3D digital wellness scans, digital impressions and same-day crown services, among others — with superb people skills makes Serene Oaks Dental a premier clinic. “What we have learned over the years is that you have to listen to the patient,” Loween explains. “When a patient feels heard, they’re much more comfortable making the best decisions for themselves.”
Then there’s the softer side: Patients are assigned a care concierge, who walks them through appointment coordination, medical history and other communications. Plus a variety of spa-level accoutrements helps soothe any anxiety: aromatherapy, paraffin wax dips, warmed slippers, headphones for music or movies, and the like.
All of that, in the end, leads to the kind of health, happiness and confidence patients are looking for. “The most rewarding thing you can do in dentistry is give someone the smile they have always wanted,” says Horn. “That can possibly impact the trajectory of a person’s life — and that’s pretty amazing.”
