Hubert White has been outfitting Twin Cities gentlemen with a certain timeless taste for more than a century. Three generations have led the store through sartorial and social changes. What’s the secret to the downtown Minneapolis shop’s success? It’s not simply good taste. It’s the close personal relationships with clients.

“We’ve always looked upon it as a people business,” says proprietor Bob White. “Yes, we carry some of the best products in the world— and we’re very proud of that. But as soon as you get too wound up in that and forget about clients and the rest of the people who make it work, you’re in trouble.”

And so when the Hubert White team travels to New York City to buy for the upcoming season, they keep in mind current clients and their tastes. “We edit everything down so we know it’s something our clients will be proud to wear,” explains White. “There are nuances every season, and we have worked really hard to find the best.”
