TV is super hot right now. Not only because it’s summer, but because there are so many great series that have been released in the past few weeks and the streaming gods just keep on giving. Here are 5 must-watch TV shows to stream during the long Labor Day weekend.
The Rehearsal
Comedian Nathan Fielder has returned to TV with this truly one-of-a-kind series that explores his obsession with breaking down the uncertainties of everyday life. With a construction crew, a cast of very unknown actors and seemingly unlimited resources, he asks ordinary people to prepare for life’s biggest moments by rehearsing them in carefully crafted situations of his own perspective and design. It’s a show that’s hard to describe, but every episode is officially out. So dive into Fielder’s weird world and text me how you feel after.
A League of Their Own
When it was announced that millennial icon Abbi Jacobson was spearheading a show inspired by the 1992 classic film A League of Their Own, the Internet didn’t quite know what to do. With the help of a hell of a marketing campaign, the new Amazon series hits it out of the park (pun definitely intended). A feel-good watch from start to finish, this show covers important topics like race, sexuality and identity in a way that gets to the heart of each matter with integrity, respect, and a few laughs here and there.
Black Bird
Inspired by actual events, Black Bird is the intense true crime series no one saw coming (and I mean no one). Hollywood heartthrob Taron Egerton portrays a recently convicted criminal who gets the opportunity to reverse his sentence if he can convince a seriously terrifying serial killer to confess where he’s buried his victims. It’s dark, it’s twisted, and it has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s all I’m going to say.
The Bear
If The Bear hasn’t entered your world yet, you’ve done an excellent job steering clear of social media. The hit show follows a young fine-dining chef who returns to his hometown to lead his family’s sandwich shop. As he strives to transform the shop, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges crew that ultimately becomes his chosen family. A tough and truthful watch for those who have experience in the food industry, The Bear is a remarkable example of art imitating real life.
Making the Cut
Project Runway lives in my personal zeitgeist as one of the most successful reality competition series to ever grace the TV screen. What made the show a standout had nothing to do with clothing and everything to do with its hosts, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. The beloved duo is still making waves with Making the Cut, the hit competition that’s back for a third season with a grand prize of $1 million. With resident judges like designer Jeremy Scott and icon Nicole Richie sitting front row, this season is already proving to be the most fashionable yet.
