Making clients’ home design dreams come true is not new to the Martha O’Hara Interiors team. With offices in Minneapolis and Austin, Texas, the full-service interior-design firm has been bringing new life to properties near and far for more than three decades — and they haven’t skipped a beat. A recent project that hit all the right notes? A picturesque Orono renovation that transformed a dated dwelling into a modern oasis, perfectly reflecting the homeowner’s personal style.
Before the O’Hara Interiors–led transformation, the abode was primarily yellow with heavy design elements that no longer felt in line with the client’s sophisticated yet approachable style. The goal here was clear: lighten things up and incorporate more contemporary touches into the residence. “The renovation of this home became more than just a redesign,” says Kate O’Hara, CEO of the firm. “It became a representation of the homeowner’s personal journey and a statement of her individual style and preferences.”
Creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere was of the utmost importance to senior designer Gabe Lindberg, so the team enlisted oversize furniture and warm finishes to complement the family’s more formal living style. For instance, the primary bedroom was revamped with large-scale furnishings and window treatments to create a cozy retreat. The primary bathroom, meanwhile, was elevated with high-quality finishes and marble and brass fixtures, delivering the oasis-like ambiance the homeowner desired.
A highlight for both designer and client was the primary bedroom suite, which was curated to effortlessly balance style with function. Each and every furniture and lighting piece was meticulously selected to ensure elegance and utility could harmoniously coexist. Along with luxurious bedding in navy, rust and white hues, lightly patterned window treatments were added to strike the right balance between a bright living space and a peaceful sleep environment. The elegant headboard tastefully complements the captivating artwork above it, adding a touch of finesse. An affinity for contrast continues into the en-suite bathroom, which juxtaposes an overall bright aesthetic with dramatic waterfall-inspired tiles in the steam shower.
