Kyle Hunt & Partners and O’Hara Interiors welcome Artisan Home Tour–goers to the Deephaven Dwelling, a custom build nestled on a private lot minutes from Lake Minnetonka. A must-stop on the tour, this 5,857-square-foot home features three bedrooms, five bathrooms and four fireplaces. The original 1960s home was loved by the owners, but the treasured property required a full home build to meet their lifestyle needs. With the help of Kyle Hunt & Partners, the couple created a wooded escape in the heart of a charming Deephaven neighborhood.

Ahead of the tour, Kyle Hunt & Partners reached out to O’Hara Interiors to furnish and style the space to showcase what it’s like to live there. The completed Deephaven Dwelling is an example of what’s possible when working with a top-tier custom builder and interior design firm. Over the next two weeks, visitors will get to experience the features that make this home so memorable. Here, we get a behind-the-scenes look at this collaboration from O’Hara Interiors’ Senior Designer Krystal Kellerman and Kyle Hunt & Partners’ cofounder Laurie Hunt.

Can you describe the relationship between a custom builder and an interior design firm?

Laurie Hunt: Collaboration with an interior designer early in the development of a project is critical to its success. It allows the homeowners to share ideas with the team, and everyone can work together to meet their goals for design, function and budget.

What makes your client experience special?

LH: It’s our commitment to quality, but also our exceptional communication. Our team knows how important trust and confidence are when undertaking a new home or renovation project, and we aim to be steady partners from our first meeting to move-in day.

Krystal Kellerman: Our team has such a depth of talent and experience that we have the perfect designer for every project. We provide each client with a level of support that’s rare among interior design firms. While I specialize in immersive lake estates, another one of our senior designers is renowned for her work on downtown condos and penthouses.

What makes this home unique?

LH: The level of craftsmanship and attention to detail creates a feeling that can only be experienced by being inside the home. O’Hara Interiors’ furnishings, decor and styling choices are carefully curated to match the upscale style and quality of the home, creating a seamless fit for top-tier interior design. The Deephaven Dwelling has a custom wine storage wall, creative fireplace surrounds, a secret music room and many other unique features that will keep visitors captivated as they move from space to space.

What inspired your furnishing and styling choices for the Deephaven Dwelling?

KK: The experience of this home begins before you even step onto the property. The neighborhood, the lush grounds and the classic exterior inspired the interior. I wanted the furnishings for the tour to reflect and balance these elements with the modern interior finishes. When you’re touring the home, be sure to check out the outdoor patio — it’s definitely a crowd favorite.

How would you describe the style of the residence?

KK: The home is an excellent example of classic design for modern living. The high-contrast neutral palette is an ideal canvas, so I was able to include several custom rugs, wood and brass elements, and an incredible collection of fine art. We wanted it to feel lived in so that visitors on the tour can picture what it’s like to have a home built by Kyle Hunt & Partners and designed by O’Hara Interiors.

Can you tell us about the artwork in the home?

KK: I’m always excited to highlight the work of independent artists. For this tour, we collaborated with one of our favorite partners, Art Resources Gallery, to place original artwork throughout the home. Especially in the office and the lower level, you’ll see the way the artwork adds color and character to the space.

What are you most looking forward to about this year’s Artisan Home Tour?

LH: We’re excited to welcome tour-goers to a transitional home that exemplifies the
team’s ability to work together to execute custom details that fit the client’s lifestyle and
personality.

Why should people come to the Deephaven Dwelling on the Artisan Home Tour?

KK: Visiting the Artisan Home Tour is an opportunity to see how a dream becomes a reality and to meet the teams that make it possible. We hope that visitors will come say hi and leave with some inspiration for their own projects!
