As if we needed another reason to love Kim’s — chef/restaurateur extraordinaire Ann Kim’s Korean American eatery — the Uptown Minneapolis restaurant’s latest news is sure to delight Twin Cities foodies. As of today, reservations are available at the James Beard winner’s most personal restaurant to date (in addition to her fan-favorite pizza joints Young Joni, Pizzeria Lola and Hello Pizza). Here are the top 5 reasons we love Kim’s — and encourage you to do the same.

The Reservations

The biggest news of the day is that this popular neighborhood joint is now taking reservations, due to popular demand (walk-ins are still welcome!). But even if you make a resy, we suggest arriving early so you can stop into Uptown institutions like Magers & Quinn Booksellers — or staying afterward for a show at the Landmark Lagoon Cinema or the Green Room. Helpful hint: Park in the Seven Points garage (formerly Calhoun Square), just a block away.

The Happy Hour

Sunday through Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., happy hour is on offer at the upstairs bar. The rotating menu features fun snacks such as Korean fried chicken wings, Shin Ramyun fries and the delectable vegetable pancake as well as a variety of cocktails, beer and wine. Insider secret: Try the popular zero-proof Poppin’ Pear.

The Weekend Lunch

Back in March, Kim’s debuted weekend lunch, which is available Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu boasts beloved dishes like beef bulgogi, fire chicken and the cured salmon rice bowl. It’s the perfect post-stroll stop after a walk around Bde Maka Ska. Need-to-know info: Feel comfortable showing up in your athleisure, since this is a come-as-you-are establishment.

The Bronto Bar

Kim is known for her playful takes on the classic dive bar (like Young Joni’s famed Back Bar), and this eatery is no exception. The Bronto Bar has major carefree vibes thanks to a turntable cranking out fun tunes. The drink list includes beer, wine, and libations in a variety of flavor profiles (spirited, bright and savory), each with two full-proof, one low-proof and one zero-proof option. Foodie suggestion: Order the chips ‘n’ dip for the ultimate dive bar delight.

The Events

If you want to take over the Kim’s dining room or the Bronto Bar for a gathering of your favorite people, you can. The restaurant offers all-inclusive event packages that make hosting social gatherings, corporate happenings and other important occasions a breeze. Pro tip: Inquire early and let the Kim’s team bring your dream party to life.
