Top tip: Choose a builder who you can trust and who you think you’re going to have fun with. You’re making a large investment in terms of time and money. If it takes a year to build your house, you’re going to want to work with someone you can trust and have fun with.

How to get inspired: There are so many good tools online today. When we used to meet with clients, they’d bring a folder of magazine tear outs they’d saved over the years. Now we have Houzz and Pinterest, which can really help people figure out what they want.

Your company’s trademark: Our trademark is our quality, our longevity and our service. There are a lot of here-today, gone-tomorrow builders. We’ve been in business for 38 years because we take care of our clients long after they move into their new home.

Most memorable project: For a musician who is big into entertaining, we actually built a nightclub on the lower level, complete with a recording studio, stage and bar-top tables. We also built a bowling alley, two-story sport court, golf simulator and wine room — it was really all centered around entertaining.

Secret to a great project: It sounds cliché, but it’s the same as the secret to a great marriage: communication.

Common misconception: That building can’t be fun. With the right builder, it’s entirely possible to truly enjoy the process. We have a track record of making people happy and having a good time.
