Minneapolis has established itself as a city of bold flavors from varying cuisines, making it a true gastronomical melting pot. When we heard that James Beard Award semifinalist chef Jamie Malone’s downtown Minneapolis eatery Eastside offers a Sunday brunch menu, we basically dropped all our weekend plans to get a taste of what’s being served up on the midday menu. Ever since the acclaimed culinary talent took over the space in 2018, family-style dishes have been a staple of the restaurant, because according to Malone, nothing brings people together like food does.

Eastside features a large dining space that still feels intimate and cozy, with warm windows and tasteful decor. No matter where the host seats you, it’s impossible to miss the exposed kitchen right as you walk in (unless you’re too busy staring at the beautiful floor tile).

The menu certainly doesn’t compromise on taste. With fare both sweet and savory, large plates and sides to share (or not), the brunch possibilities go on and on. We suggest going with a group so you can mix and match a surplus of à la carte options, none of which you can go wrong with. The biscuits and gravy is a warm, hearty dish with the perfect biscuit-to-gravy ratio. And we had to test the eggs Benedict, an obvious brunch favorite, which was perfectly executed with a hollandaise sauce that was unapologetically its own. An Eastside dinner favorite that makes a guest appearance on the brunch menu, the lobster thermidor with French fries comes in a hefty portion that could easily be devoured by someone who has never quite understood the saying “Your eyes are bigger than your stomach.”

And like any good weekend menu, the beverage offerings are on point. Whether you prefer bottomless mimosas or the perfect spicy bloody mary, there’s something for everyone to partake in a boozy brunch. If you’re looking to change up your brunch game, we highly recommend stopping in to see what Eastside is serving up. Hitting all the right notes from its location to its menu to its service, this downtown hot spot has quickly risen to the top of our Sunday Funday list.
