Streeter Custom Builder CEO Bill Costello and his wife purchased the property with the goal of creating a destination for their family and friends to enjoy quality time together. Now available to rent on Airbnb, the modern Door County cabin inspires a slower pace of living. Along with beautiful interiors, it offers access to waterfront amenities, nearby trails and all the charm of lake life. The stunning abode is perfect for any kind of getaway, from a serene weekend retreat to a week of waterside family fun.
Visitors are first greeted by a light-filled entry flanked with beautiful stonework and the first of many striking artworks. The entrance itself is the first indication that the home was designed by seasoned lake-goers; the sliding glass door faces an identical exit across the room to let in heavenly cross breezes during warmer months. A spacious living room flows into the impressive chef’s kitchen, which boasts state-of-the-art Fisher & Paykel appliances and a full arsenal of cooking tools. The entire open-concept space is designed to bring people together, with expansive windows providing sweeping idyllic views.
To capture the modern lake-life aesthetic, Costello tapped Duett Interiors founder Tiffany Thompson for her design expertise — and the result is stunning. The living room’s cozy appeal comes from a blend of elegant Schneiderman’s furnishings and natural materials, like the limestone fireplace and the reclaimed ceiling boards. Hennepin Made’s artisan lighting adds unique personality throughout the residence. Luxe finishes and Delta Brizo fixtures give the bathrooms a spa-like feel. With two bedrooms and a bunkroom outfitted with premium linens, the cabin can comfortably sleep up to eight people. The artwork throughout is an extra personal touch, as many of the pieces were created by the homeowner himself.
The real magic of the abode is just outside its floor-to-ceiling windows. The incredible vistas of Lake Michigan are what first drew Costello and his family to the Clay Banks property. From the riprap shore, the endless teal water feels ocean-like as it meets the horizon. There’s plenty of opportunity for lake activities like kayaking and swimming, but this haven also offers a lot in the way of serenity. The private back deck, for instance, is perfect for alfresco dining or a leisurely cocktail hour. The screened porch is designed for daytime lounging, while the fire pit is a go-to gathering place in the evenings.
