As a middle schooler in the early 2000s, I endlessly dreamt of having the one outfit seen on every It girl: the Juicy Couture tracksuit. I didn’t have a job that would allow me to purchase the $200+ pair of sweatpants with matching zip sweatshirt, so onto my Christmas and birthday lists it went.

I vividly remember the day I received my very first suit. It was just an ordinary day with my mom picking me up from school, but then not so ordinary because in the back seat was a beautifully wrapped gift box from the original Len Druskin (RIP). While still in the parking lot, I unwrapped a beautiful baby-blue velour Juicy tracksuit, complete with coveted ruffled pockets. Best mom ever!

From then on, for every gifting occasion, I always requested another Juicy tracksuit. “Juicy” in rhinestones on the butt? Wanted it. Velour, sweatshirt or terry-cloth material? Wanted it. Black, white, purple, neon pink? All of them, please. Looking back at my embarrassing collection of more than a dozen tracksuits and thinking about the state of the brand today (Former owners Pam & Gela sold the brand, and it’s now exclusively available at JCPenney), I probably shouldn’t have invested so heavily in such a passing fad. But hey, we all get caught up in trends every once in a while, right?

I still love a good tracksuit, but thankfully my taste has grown up since my middle-school days and I’ve gladly left the Dude, where’s my couture?–embellished apparel behind. Today, I’m seeing more and more brands bringing back the iconic and comfy look, but in a more understated way. Looking to add a tracksuit to your wardrobe? We’ve got your matching-head-to-toe look covered with these four picks.
