A fixture on the Twin Cities juice scene, Truce was founded in 2012 by Minnesota natives Blair Molitor and Allie Pohlad. We sat down with Molitor to get the down low on the company’s organic, fresh-pressed juice, now available at its Uptown and North Loop shops.

Why do you think there has been such a surge in juiceries?

People are becoming more aware of what they’re putting in their bodies. After so many years of processed foods, there’s a return to natural, whole foods that provide bountiful benefits. People are realizing that what they eat really affects how they feel and are discovering the healing powers of food.

What sets you apart from competitors?

Our commitment to quality, organic produce and freshness. We’re making the juices fresh every day — about an eight-hour process! — and are choosing combinations of ingredients that result in the most benefits per bottle. I think people can taste the difference.

Where do you get your ingredients? Are they local?

All our ingredients are 100% organic and local as much as possible. We work with Co-op Partners Warehouse in St. Paul to get a lot of our produce. They source from Featherstone Farm in Minnesota and several farms in Wisconsin. We also work directly with Seed to Seed Farm in Balsam, Wisconsin, and have a strong partnership with The Good Acre, a food hub supporting local farmers.

What are the health benefits of juice cleanses?

A juice cleanse is a great way to hit the reset button. You’re loading up on essential nutrients that are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, allowing your digestive system to rest. In addition to providing a great opportunity to start fresh with your eating habits, increased energy, mental clarity, stress reduction, clearer skin and a better functioning digestive system are all reported benefits.

What’s the most popular product at Truce? Which is your favorite?

The Morning Greens is definitely the most popular juice and probably my favorite. It’s a good mix of leafy greens, a little apple for sweetness and a kick of ginger for a good pick-me-up. I’m also in love with the Cocobombe, which is a full coconut blended together (all of the meat and coconut water). It’s the ultimate thirst-quencher. The acai bowls have really been taking off lately — basically an antioxidant-rich, super-food smoothie in a bowl topped with yummy, crunchy toppings and fresh fruit. I of course like everything on the menu.
