When 21-year-old billionaire Kylie Jenner launched her skincare line, Kylie Skin, earlier this year, I couldn’t help but read all the reviews, which ranged from scathing to raving. Three sold-out releases later, I was finally able to get my hands on the full suite of cruelty-free, gluten-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free, vegan, dermatologist-tested products. Here, I present my review of each Jenner-created product following the step-by-step regimen.
The Kylie Skin Regimen
Step 1: The Face Wash
Before applying the face wash, I removed my makeup and wet my face. While this product is marketed as unscented, I was immediately greeted by a strong yet soothing aroma. The foam is light and velvety. Oftentimes my skin feels dry after using a foaming face wash, but to my surprise, my skin felt soft and hydrated after trying this one. Kylie Skin was off to a good start.
Step 2: The Walnut Scrub
This is the product I was most excited to try due to the abundance of controversial reviews claiming that walnut scrubs can cause micro tears in your skin. After using the face wash, I wet my face once more and massaged the scrub into my skin. The walnut pieces were so fine that I couldn’t imagine them causing any tears in my skin yet they were coarse enough that I could feel the product really cleaning out my pores. Between the light walnut aroma and the clean, smooth skin left behind, I was once again rather pleased.
Step 3: The Toner
I had never used a toner like the vanilla milk toner in this set. In stark contrast to an alcohol-based liquid, this softly scented product has a milky consistency that glided across my face. My skin was left with a light glow.
Step 4: The Moisturizer
After pumping the little moisturizer bottle what felt like a million times, I was finally rewarded with an unscented moisturizer that was thicker than expected. I was worried my skin would feel greasy but was pleasantly surprised that the moisturizer didn’t leave a thick film behind. I don’t think this product worked as well as the others, but I also don’t have anything negative to report (other than that the darn pump bottle didn’t work very well).
Step 5: The Eye Cream
I don’t consistently use an eye cream but was curious if I’d see any real improvement or benefit for my under eyes. This product’s bottle has a unique tip that makes application easy. My favorite aspects of this cream were the immediate tingling feeling when it touches the skin and the light yellow color that helps conceal dark under-eye complexion. Similar to the moisturizer, I wasn’t overwhelmed by this product — good, but not great.
Step 6: The Vitamin C Serum
This product surprised me because I had never used a serum that wasn’t oil-based. More of a creamy gel, it soaked into my skin flawlessly and left it feeling luxuriously bright.
The Verdict
Although a couple of the products are slightly underwhelming, the negative reviews I have read about Kylie Skin are definitely too harsh. For the most part, the suite of products worked well together and created a great base for my makeup. The face wash was my favorite, with the scrub, toner and serum tying for second place. Do I recommend giving Kylie Skin a try? Absolutely. That is, if you can get your hands on the next product drop.
