Autumn is my favorite season, and it may or may not be because of the fashion that comes along with it. There’s just something about big, cozy knits and fuzzy boots that tugs at my style heart strings. Page through a fashion magazine, and you’ll see it’s all about textures this season. Here are my three favorite texture trends that are totally doable off the runway.
This is my favorite trend right now, because who doesn’t love extra warmth when the temps dip? Shearling always had a presence in autumn/winter fashion, but this year, it’s showing up everywhere — boots, bags, scarves, jean jackets and more.
Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge II Shearling Boot
I’m a sucker for Sorel boots. They are practical, go with everything and add some height for us shorter gals. I like to wear them with thick camp socks bunched up above the ankle to add even more texture (and warmth).
Kate Spade New York Teddy Faux Fur Coat
Faux fur coats are everywhere this season. I love that this coat combines that trend with a classic pea-coat silhouette.
Saint Laurent Shearling Toy Lou Lou Crossbody Bag
Meet the ultimate winter handbag: a shearling side body by Saint Laurent. Need I say more?
I love to layer, and this trend plays so well into that. And this just in: It’s no longer just a winter jacket thing.
Think Royln The Heroine Quilted Poncho
Paying homage to our autumn issue cover, this super cute throw-over poncho combines metallic and puffer, just like Chanel did at Paris Couture Week. This piece can also double as a go-to jacket or top.
Lululemon Cloudscape Long Jacket
Fashion meets function in this water-resistant jacket. The interior waist cinches to your body, and there’s a secret interior zip pocket to store valuables. Bonus feel-good factor: The 700 fill goose down is RDS-certified by Control Union.
MZ Wallace Rose Gold Metallic Oxford Micro Sutton
The puffer trend isn’t limited to outerwear. MZ Wallace is known for its quilted totes and purses. This one can be worn as a crossbody or handbag, plus it’s extremely packable.
Knits are always in vogue, but this year, the extra chunky, oversize ones are standing out. Whether paired with faux-leather leggings and a heel or your favorite jeans and sneakers, a chunky knit is versatile for day or night.
Heartmade Kassy Sweater
There’s nothing like a good turtleneck. I especially like this one’s high/low hemline, making it the perfect sweater for a front tuck. Plus who doesn’t love pink?
J.O.A. Varsity Stripe Cable Hoodie Sweater
I have no shame admitting my love for Ralph Lauren classics. This hooded sweater has total Americana vibes. I love the idea of layering it over a tissue turtleneck during the cooler months.
Tory Sport Merino V-Neck Sweater
We can’t talk texture without throwing in something wool. This oversize ribbed sweater would be perfect with leggings post-workout or with denim and loafers at work. The toughest decision: cotton pink or slalom blue. Maybe both?
