“Hostess with the mostess” is an understatement when it comes to White Peacock founders Nicole Liwienski and Jennifer Rasmussen. Five years after the launch of their brand, they have transformed their business from an event-planning firm to a full-service creative house. From destination weddings to creative workshops, there’s nothing these ladies can’t do. See their signature trademarked Frilloons in action at our second annual Kentucky Derby Party this Saturday.

What inspired White Peacock?

Jen and I are very entrepreneurial at heart and have always dreamt of doing something we love. For Jen, it’s a way for her to explore her creative interest and to fill her love for logistics and planning. As for me, I am a hostess and designer at heart and am always looking for new ways to add special details to any celebration. I love bringing ideas to the table, and Jen is a master at executing them. We both love bringing people together, spreading joy and making people feel special.

When did Shop Frilloon become a part of your business?

Shop Frilloon was born in 2013.

What is Project Frilloon?

Project Frilloon was born out of our passion for spreading joy. Jen and I first met working on a charity project together, and we both are passionate about community and giving back. In the summer of 2013, we dropped off a surprise “leftover” party Frilloon for a friend who had recently completed cancer treatment; the amount of joy and happiness it brought him brought us to tears. And Project Frilloon was born.

We love to celebrate those who are doing great things — overcoming illness, volunteering their time, donating their skills for the betterment of our community. Delivering our Frilloons is just a small way of taking notice of hard work and sacrifice, of saying thanks and celebrating. It’s a way for us to team up with our clients to have an impact beyond a fabulous party and to make someone’s day. We think Frilloons are the ultimate happy makers!

Why do you think Kentucky Derby parties are growing in popularity?

It’s more than a race; it’s a long-standing tradition. It’s a reason for friends to celebrate, socialize and indulge in all the derby loveliness, all while sipping on mint juleps, sporting your finest hats and bow ties, and watching America’s greatest horse race!

What are your Kentucky Derby party essentials?

  • A great invite; it’s the first look of your party and sets the tone.
  • Rosy red Frilloons flying high in the sky.
  • A Kentucky Derby signature cocktail or a self-serve mint-julep bar.
  • Julep vases filled with simple red roses or classic Southern flowers.
  • Light finger foods or tea sandwiches along with mini bourbon pecan pies — simple enough so no extra utensils are needed.

Win or lose, it’s all about bringing friends and family together and having fun.
