Our Winter 2016 issue features an artful homage to the world’s most alluring island nation: Cuba. To create the cover, we tapped the ever-talented Justina Blakeney, whose “jungalow” aesthetic is oh so appropriate. (You might recognize her handiwork from our Spring 2015 cover, as well.) We asked the bohemian-chic Los Angeles designer a few questions about creating this artwork, finding inspiration and more.
What does the Artful Living cover image evoke for you?
Feelings of summer and feeling free, time off, fresh air, and beaches.
Where do you draw inspiration?
Everywhere — from walks in my neighborhood to visits to the flea market and especially in the beauty of nature. I believe inspiration is all around if you keep an eye out for it.
What can your fans look for next?
My new stationery line with Wedding Paper Divas just launched. There you’ll find a similar vibe to the #botanicalsonblush cover art. Justina Blakeney Home also launches this year, with everything from rugs to pillows to furniture.
