Personal style: I see my personal style as refined elegance with a twist. It matches up to my design aesthetic, which embodies modern style and relaxed femininity.

Style influences

Style influences: Growing up, I was inspired by my mother, who was my true fashion icon — she had impeccable style. I have fused that elegance with Californian ease for my sense of style.

Where you shop Where you shop 2

Where you shop: Paris is unquestionably my favorite city to shop. Avenue Montaigne has some of the most beautiful stores in the world. Céline and Alaia are two of my favorite stores to visit.

Trend you love

Trend you love: I love a layered look for fall. I mix up my knits and wools with textures; it makes any outfit more interesting.

Trend you’re over: Uggs — especially worn with more formal outfits.

FW14 MONIQUE LHUILLIER NEW YORK

Favorite item in your closet: I am looking forward to wearing pieces from my fall 2014 collection. It was inspired by a romantic dark side, Parisian opulence mixed with modern architectural moments. I reinterpreted lace for fall in a more modern and geometric way. My favorite piece is my noir/nude graphic lace long-sleeve midi dress.

Item you wear most: For fall, I am loving my midnight wool sleeveless long vest. I can pair it back to a black, cropped pant for an effortlessly elegant work look.

Favorite retro piece

Favorite retro piece: My classic Hermès Birkin forest-green bag — it goes with everything.

Go-to accessory

Go-to accessory: At the moment, I constantly wear a statement ring from Turkish jewelry designer Sevan Biçakçi. He encompasses an old-world tradition of creating art into jewelry.

Surviving a Minnesota winter in style: I always say you have to feel comfortable, confident and beautiful in whatever you wear. In harsh winter weather, it’s important to be warm, and you can do this in fashionable and functional way without compromising style. Invest in a statement coat and keep everything underneath sleek and chic.

Best style advice you’ve received:After you get dressed before walking out the door, look in the mirror one last time and take one thing off. You should never over-accessorize!
