Spring has finally arrived (better late than never?!), and we are ready to fully welcome it into our lives. We tapped Minnesota’s own Lucy Penfield of Lucy Interior Design for her advice on just how to do that. She and her team are known for bringing boundless creativity to every project and crafting one-of-a-kind spaces, whether it’s a local lake cottage or a Hamptons beach house. Here are Penfield’s top five tips for sprucing up your home this spring.

Freshen Up

Doll up your entry with found treasures from vintage shops like Retro Wanderlust and Hunt & Gather. Freshen up your painted walls with decals from WallsNeedLove. And don’t forget to add in some fresh-cut tropical leaves.

Clear the Clutter

Unbury yourself from the pile-high papers and start anew. Curate your favorite pieces, like graphic art from Minted and a funky globe lamp from Roam. Then hit the books for decor inspo and color direction. We always find a must-have book or two at Grace Hill Design and Victory.

Dress the Bed

Splurge and treat your summer guests with fresh linens from Boll & Branch. They’re so decadently soft and are delivered in packaging fit for a queen. If you’re pillow-crazy like us, take a drive to Cultural Cloth in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, for one-of-a-kind pillows from Guatemala and statement-making rugs from Turkey. Top the room off with bedside lamps made from vintage ceramic sculptures. (Insider tip: Let the pros at Lightworks wire them perfectly for you.)

Go Green

Clear the fireplace of ashes and layer the hearth with a mishmash of greenery. Mix up the styles and sizes to create a unique collection. We always find exotic plants at Tonkadale and scour our great shopper’s city for fun planters. Go check out the new guy in town, Madre Cacti in Northeast Minneapolis, for the best cacti collection in the North.

Get the Patio Party-Ready

Now that your house looks fabulous, it’s time to spruce up the patio. Create a stage with vintage ladders, top it off with a roll of bamboo sticks then drape with outdoor fabric panels. Check out AJ Maison for fabrics, Link Outdoor for furniture, and Dash & Albert for outdoor rugs. Add in some tropical trees and Moroccan lanterns to complete the vibe.
