Creating this stunning lakeside residence situated on a pristine 20 acres outside Buffalo was a true joy for Brandi Hagen of Eminent Interior Design. After helping the owners redo a lower level in a different house years ago, she was ecstatic when they tapped her to help build their dream home, a sophisticated farmhouse.

The clients wanted to create a timeless home that made an impression yet felt lived-in and comfortable. With four teenagers and five dogs roaming about this accessible one-level home, every material needed to be durable and low-maintenance. The abode is also devoid of purely formal spaces; every room is meant to be used and enjoyed.

Elegant but inviting, the living room is a design highlight, with its two-story vaulted ceiling featuring trendy shiplap and exposed wooden beams. The timeless host’s kitchen is open and bright, boasting a mini butler’s pantry that leads into a second, more practical pantry with floor-to-ceiling storage and a full upright refrigerator and freezer.

More often than not, the family spends time relaxing or entertaining in the adjoined family room and bar lounge. Separated by the striking brick wall with arched double doorways, the living room is anchored by the built-in banquette and demi-lune table. A favorite study spot and game area, the cozy booth keeps everyone together no matter what projects they’re tackling. The focal point of the lounge is no doubt the wooden bar, with its pewter countertops and black pipe details. Topping it all off is the space’s impressive hand-stenciled ceiling.

Carrying out the theme of stone accent walls is the breathtaking master suite. The two-sided fireplace gives the space the feel of a relaxing resort. Beyond the arched doorway is the serene master bathroom, which features a cast concrete soaking tub, a herringbone tile floor, and subtle touches of black and gold.
